L'Eglise Santa-Maria della salute à Venise

Among the collected works of ancient art at the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, the Church of Santa-Maria della Salute in Venice by Francesco Guardi (1712-1793), comes from the collection of one of Albi's most illustrious archbishops, the Cardinal of Bernis.
Before his arrival in Albi, the Cardinal was French ambassador in Venice where one can assume he acquired this work.
Francesco Guardi, who was born and died in Venice, spent his entire life in the city. Considered as one of the most notable Venetian painters of the 18th century, he surprisingly did not begin landscapes until nearing the age of 30.
This view of Venice, showing great freshness and perfect spontaneity is characteristic of the artist's talent. The Church of Santa-Maria della Salute, drawn in rigorous perspective, is painted with a slight and lively touch in tones of green and gold.
