A
large number of Lautrec's posters are
linked to shows. The very famous series
devoted to the singer Aristide Bruant
is among the most famous. In 1892, Aristide
Bruant ordered a poster from the artist
for his show in the cabaret called Les
Ambassadeurs. Lautrec depicted
a three-quarter portrait of the singer
in characteristic clothing, with a wide-brimmed
hat, red scarf and large cape. With
great economy of means, he imposed this
figure highlighted by the soft shadows
under the eyes and solid blocks of pure
colour. |
