“Toulouse-Lautrec, the making of icons” presented from April 24 to October 4, 2026 at Caumont-Centre d’Art in Aix-en-Provence.
The creation of iconic images
This exhibition, created in collaboration with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, showcases the artist's exceptional ability to create iconic images and transform the celebrities of his time and figures of the nightlife scene into enduring images, etched into the collective imagination. From ephemeral celebrities to timeless figures, he crafted these stars and succeeded in fixing contemporary glories, transforming them into symbols of fin-de-siècle Paris.
An original stage design
The works from the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum will be displayed alongside other loans from private collectors and public institutions such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée Carnavalet – History of Paris. The original and immersive scenography and the themes explored in this exhibition will allow visitors to discover and appreciate them in a new light. The exhibition will highlight the artist's talent in various media, from lithography to painting, while also showcasing diverse themes explored by Toulouse-Lautrec: the world of entertainment, advertising, portraiture, theater, and even brothels.
